When BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) started in 1928, there where 25 German Car
brands on the market, now this number shrunk to 7.
BMW was founded on the 20th July 1917, when it all started with building plane
engines.
In 1924 there were 2194 employees in the Eisenbach factory, which built the
first Dixi's. This car is pictured on the background, the last dixi's leave
the factory here, so that BMW could take over the company.
Dixi 3/15 DA1
The charm of the DA1 Dixi 3/15 is still clearly recognizable, the last of
these 4831 machines were built more than 60 years ago.
Mechanically, they are practically the same as the Austin Seven, including
the synchronized 3 speed gearbox and an 748 cc engine Dixi 3/15 DA1 Dixi
3/15 DA4.

Dixi 3/15 DA4
Also in this Dixi 3/15 DA4 the basic design of the Austin-Dixi is still
very recognizable.
Next to the limousine version, there were also open versions. |

Dixi 3/20
With the 3/20, in 1932 the first own construction BMW was presented.
The engine was still based on the engine from Austin, but it has now got
head valves. |
