I have an '85 e30 323i and I can get my grubby mits onto a 2.5l engine from an e34 525. Will this 2.5l engine bolt up to my 2.3l gearbox and fit easily into my car?Huh It will make getting parts etc much easier as there are a lot more 2.5l parts around. Help Undecided

Hi brrmm,
I've been trying to find stuff out for you, and I think it'll work out.
For the 85 323i's there are 2 different gearboxes, called the Getrag 245 and the Getrag 260, both 5speed gearboxes.
The Getrag 260 was also used in the 325i, so that should bolt up to your 2.5l engine.
Try this website: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do
See which parts belong to which car, and you can figure out if it'll work.

If you need more help, I'll contact the real e30 specialist for you!

well the engine itself will bolt right in, you'll need engine mounts from a e30 m20, and i'm sure you'll need the wiring harness and ecu from and e30 m20 325i

aside from that, for the trans are you 5 speed or auto
