umm, depending on how your car runs, you might want to get it fully checked out before hand, compression test, full tuneup etc...

hmm, as for a turbo manifold, you can either get a custom pipe, turbo adapter, or try and find a turbo manifold from a 524td 85-86
umm
which terms do you need help with, i'll explain it out more if you need

sorry can't help you much today, been a long weekend

thanks ilir!!

Im beginning to do some small things to get ready fo turbo.  I need to replace the fuel pump.  I tried searching for fuel pumps online and they had two types im guessin.  One was for inside the tank (low pressure)...the other was for the line (high pressure).  im not sure how this works or even it was correct due to me only seeing it on one web site  buck .  any more info would be helpful.  THanks

Another note, which fuel filter is better:

BOSCH
MAHLE
KAYSER

the prices increase as you go down the list.  I heard bosch is supposed to be the best in general?

Hello,

I currently using stock cooling fan...i want to switch over to electric to free up some horses Evil.  How would i go about doing it?

I saw some fans that would mount up.  What should i look for? (cfm, 12V) i really dont know how they work...like how would it know to turn on? does it have an internal thermostat or do i have to wire it to something on the vehicle.

thanks

alright sorry about the delay between posts, been really busy, school, trying to set up a shop, and my car...

alright to get back to the previous post..
if your going to run on stock internals, the max psi you should run is around 12-15psi max
with that you really won't need too much of a fuel delivery you can stick with the stock fuel pump for now, abd run that for a while without too much trouble, as for the fuel filter... i'ld stick with bosch

to the current question..

if you really want to free up some horses to start remove your ac belt and power steering belt, makes a huge diff alone

as for the fan, i haven't really looked into anything for the fan

what you could do though is try and find one from a scrapyard for a fwd car and try and find one about the same dimensions as the radiator you have and zip tie it to the rad support and front frame...
(make sure you get the plug that goes with it)
from there it's a simple wire to 12 volts and ground with a switch and your set

if i have some time i'll get back to you with some models and diagrams but most likely won't be for a while

good luck

The book: Maximum Boost by Corky Bell provides lots of info on turbo charging.  Theoretically, any car could have some sort of forced induction (assuming you or somebody knows how to fabricate) but EFI (electronic fuel injection) is ideal; though carberated engines could be turboed with out a problem.

For my set up im gonna be using a T3 like this one from eBay:
 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8076864406&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Im going to use SAFC as the fuel management (sort of like piggy back unit) due to larger injectors 36lbs from ford  Cool
Needig larger fuel supply so goin wit walbro 255lph fuel pump; heard by many and my friend uses one that they make the best pumps
Using WideBand O2 sensor for tuning.  With SAFC i could tweak my AFR (air fuel ratios) to get the right ratio.  the stock narrow band O2 sensor is less accurate and ocisslates giving bad readings
going to use Volvo intercooler (large front mount)  cool

It has been done though: the guy i bought the adaptor from boosting 9psi with blackstone IC put out 185+ rwhp on stock internals cool
jus think, e30 318i (as light as it is) with almost 200whp with LSD (3.91) can we say......haulin asssssss  Evil

well you are already off to a good start, maximum boost is the best book i've ever read towards f/i

sounds like you have a nice setup...  what kind of wastegate, blow off valve are you planning on using?

internal wastegates are good only to areound 8-10lbs of boost, and tend to have blowby issues... aside from that the tial 38mm bov, is supposedly the loudest available on the market Evil

Ok, the getrag 240 is the gearbox for the 4-cyl e30s, the getrag 260 is the 6-cyl version.
I don't know a lot about it, but I think this will be the only one that will fit (maybe there are aftermarket conversions available).
Also on this site: http://www.theeurodepot.com/specials.html you can find complete conversion kits (scroll down a little).
As you can see, you're not only changing the tranny, but also the pedals, driveshaft, etc.
:(So, are you saying that there are no other transmissions that are compatible?  I was wondering if a 1981 320i would fit into a 1984 318i?

I really don't think they are compatible (cannot find anything about it on the internet, except for this site: http://www.metricmechanic.com/pg54.htm
Besides that, the 260 getrag is longer than the 240 getrag, so that might the problem.
Maybe someone else here has more info?

From what i read, the 320i also had a getrag 240, it may bolt right up! dont know about the bell housing though but it may not matter
