Did you bought the engine with the engine computer or without it?

i was having the same problem with my car (e30), when i swapped engines

my problem was the ecu.... normally though you shouldn't be getting spark or fuel, because if the crank sensor isn't compatible it won't send a signal to the ecu and the ecu won't send a signal to the coil or fuel injectors

only thing i can think is that the sensor may be running at a higher ohm rating than what your ecu is used to and the signal isn't going through, did you try your sensor from your old engine?

despite from what i've heard the ecu normally can take quite a bit of abuse before it can short out, so i don't think the ecu is the problem

good luck and keep us updated as to your progress Cool

did you end up swaping the sensors?

apart from that did you re connect your engine grounds, i've forgot that once, and spent a couple extra days trying to find the problem

regarding the sensor, i went to change it but i havent got the old one because a very nice scrap man came and took the old engine without asking if i still needed it. so i now need the correct sensor it is becoming a nightmare!!!!!!

damn that sucks....

i might have some sensors laying around but they are from a m20b25(e30 325i) engine, and i don't know if they work the same

i should have two working ones in a little bit, going to be doing a m50 swap hopefully soon

thanks for replying i will try anything. i sent my dad to a scrap yard to get a pulley. he got one of a e30 g`reg with the same engine as the scrap man took, so i thought this may be different to the one on the engine now (e36)m40 but it turned out the same. when i fitted the engine i used the inlet manifold of the old one only because it was cleaner. luckily i still have the old one i looked on that and it says 1.6Le but the L looks like a backwards j i have been thinking that maybe i have been had and i have bought a 1.6 engine Angry and thats why it dont work if thats the case i may have to cut my losses and buy another engine. hopefully of somebody who knows bmw`s well. would i be able to buy the sensor of you. thanks again.. angel
