BMW most successful engine manufacturer

V 10 power unit featured by the BMW M5/M6 voted "Engine of the Year" yet again, M3 engine is class leader for the sixth time,
3.0-litre twin turbo diesel best diesel engine for the second time.
Never before in the history of the “Engine of the Year Award” has the situation arisen whereby an engine was voted power unit of the year twice in succession. The V 10 high performance engine powering the BMW M5/M6 has now managed to achieve this remarkable feat and was voted “International Engine of the Year 2006” in Stuttgart by around 60 renowned trade journalists from all over the world. Moreover, it received the coveted award “Best Performance Engine 2006”, finally taking first place in the class exceeding 4 litres cubic capacity.
However, BMW M engineers were able to win laurels not only for this high-revving, 507 bhp five-litre engine. The 3.2-litre straight-six engine sported by the BMW M3 with 343 bhp and now also featured in the BMW Z4 M Roadster and Z4 M Coupe, again caused a sensation. It was winner in the class from three to four litres cubic capacity for the sixth time in a row. No engine has managed to do this since this renowned competition was held for the first time.

New employment vehicles: BMW gets the Bavarian police ready for the FIFA soccer world championship.
Task forces in the WC-cities Munich and Nuernberg receive 368 vehicles in the 3- and 5-series.

Munich/ Nuernberg. Before the beginning of the FIFA soccer world championship 2006 368 new BMW employment vehicles will enrich the vehicle park of the Bavarian police. The police cars equipped with newest technology are intended for the security forces in the Bavarian WC-cities Munich and Nuernberg. In both cities the Minister of State, Dr. Guenther Beckstein, will introduce the vehicles. In order to optimize the conditions of work of the security forces (in particular during the football WC), the Minister had arranged the acquisition of altogether 508 new employment vehicles. BMW places the biggest part of this new force.

Already in the preparatory phase, the Bayerns can trust the police on the quality and reliability as well as on the modern technology of their new employment vehicles. 35 BMWS 525d Touring and 333 BMWS 320d Touring will facilitate the work for the safety forces in the WC cities Munich and Nuernberg. The police vehicles rolled off the line in Munich and Dingolfing. For the Bavarian police the modernization of the vehicle park is an important component of their security concept for the soccer world championship. The decision, to let supply 368 of the 508 new employment vehicles by BMW, proves the high requirements of the security authorities. |

The other variants of the new BMW 3 Series Coupé entering the
market in September 2006 – the BMW 330i Coupé (200 kW/272 hp),
the BMW 325i Coupé (160 kW/218 hp), and the BMW 330d Coupé
(170 kW/231 hp) – again reflect the principle of BMW Efficient Dynamics in every respect. Further versions of the new two-door model with six- and
four-cylinder power units will round off the model range at a later point in time. |
